AdotaPet helps animals find a family. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are.
Who is responsible
The data controller is the operator of AdotaPet. Contact: [email protected].
What we collect and why
- Rehoming requests: name, email, mobile (optional), location and a description of the animal. Used to review the request and, if approved, publish the listing with the contact details you agreed to make public.
- Organizations (rescues and shelters): organization and account data (email, password stored encrypted). Used to manage animals and the profile.
- Business and partner listings: business and contact person details. Business details become public once approved; the contact person details stay private.
- Region waiting list: your email, so we can let you know when an area opens. You can ask for removal at any time.
- Alerts and newsletter: your email and search preferences (area, type, size), only after you confirm by email. Used to send alerts and the weekly digest. You can unsubscribe with one click in any email.
- Hearts ("Show some love"): an anonymous identifier stored in a cookie and a hashed IP address, only to prevent abuse and count hearts. They do not identify people.
- Contact clicks: we count how many times call, email, website, etc. are clicked, without storing personal data.
Cookies
We use essential or functional cookies: session (security and accounts), language preference, your cookie choice and the anonymous heart identifier.
We currently do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies.
Third-party services
The site uses Cloudflare (security and delivery), Google Fonts and embedded Google Maps on organization pages. These services may receive your IP address when they load. Contact links open external apps (phone, email, WhatsApp, Facebook) which have their own policies.
How long we keep data
Rejected requests are deleted within a few months. Listing and account data are kept while active. Waiting list emails are kept until you ask for removal, or the area opens and the notice is sent.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or objection, and withdraw consent where processing is based on it. Write to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority (CNPD, www.cnpd.pt).
Security
Passwords are stored encrypted, traffic uses HTTPS and panel access is protected against repeated attempts. No system is completely secure, however.
